LFDW

Hey folks!

Had a crappy CRAPPY CRAP week (putting it mildly). I was struck by malaria on Monday night. Funny how you can go from feeling 100% to feeling like crap in a few hours. I went for a friend’s surprise gathering earlier in the day and I was completely normal. Been bed ridden all week.

Hate being ill because that means hospitals and pills. So daunting.  Also, I can not swallow pills. Tried so many times but it just isn't working. I got it from my mum who could not swallow till she was quite old.  I am ‘one of those’ that would gladly be injected than prescribed drugs(usually the opposite with most people).

When I was younger,  my pills were mixed solids such as Eba. Imagine eating Eba with paracetamol in it. Yuck! Now I am forced to down my pills dissolved in water. I am not the best sick patient.

I interviewed to work as an intern at the LFDW a few weeks ago. Some applicants went ALL out dressing wise, I was itching to take pictures. Had the interview and lost interest afterwards. The benefits of the role are a chance to network & work with Nigerian designers with a supply of free food and drinks while working. Interns had to be available from the 29th of October- 1st of November from 12pm-10pm. 10pm is a myth because the show is supposed to start at 5pm but trust Nigerians & their ‘punctuality’. The show was on till about 12pm when I went last year. So the role was not what I expected it to be and I felt the other applicants that are actually looking to join the fashion industry deserved it more. Luckily, I did not get the job.

I have been watching the shows via instagram and the LFDW website – LFDW website. I am going to be honest, not so impressed with some designers that have showcased their collection. I have not been WOWED. I will share some of my favourite looks on Sunday.

Happy Halloween! What are you dressing up as? xxx

Need for Speed - BMW i8

Hi! Start of a new week *bleh*

I just saw this beauty online and I fell in love!

I could write an epistle about this car. What I would give to be behind the wheels. I love BMWs, there is just something about them. Especially the black ones. Infact I think cars should only be painted in these colours- Matte black (my favourite), navy blue, White, Maroon & Brown. Any other colour just looks wrong.
The interior! Ofcourse it had to be push to start *sigh*. What are your preferences in cars? xxx

Silver Jubilee

Hey folks! Hope you have all had a great weekend

In my recent posts, I mentioned I was planning a surprise party. The party was for my older brother, he turned 25 on friday. He believes 25 is such a big deal, he used phrases like 'quarter of a century' and 'silver jubilee' to describe 25.
I loved this cake! Shout out to the sweet spot!

The party was at the rooftop- 7B Karimu Kotun, Victoria Island Lagos ( opposite mitsubishi motors). The venue was renovated recently and is so beautiful. It had a white & black decor, chandeliers and great lighting.

My initial plan was a dinner but my brother has too many friends sigh. Also nigerians are not the most punctual people on earth. There were too many cons for a dinner so we decided to do just finger food and drinks.

As expected people were late and some people arrived after the birthday boy! No surprise there really! But overall the party was a success and he was happy :). That was all that mattered. The lighting was so great but I was having fun so I forgot about pictures.

The party continued at SPICE ROUTE then moved to SIP after. Chris brown's DJ was one of the DJs of the night at spice. Before I got to SIP I had lost my voice so you can imagine how good he was. The clubs were so packed! As it was the last friday of the month and pay week. But that did not stop us, we JAMMED all night! WHAT A NIGHT! I was bed ridden all day on saturday, never esperred it! Absolutely love birthdays!

Shout out to everyone that came out. Love you all xxx

What was she thinking?

Hey folks!

Pretty random post. Basically I saw pictures of Kim Kardashian West at her birthday party and was disappointed. This was what she wore.

Her make up is always flawless tbh but her style is always a HIT or MISS. This outfit looks like a white bedsheet with chains. Looks very tacky and cheap IMO. I did not bother to find out which designer made this bedsheet 'wrap dress'.

I hope she did not pay a ridiculous amount for the dress because frankly, it was a waste. Giving this outfit 2/10 because the dress is white and I love white.

What are your thoughts? xx

What's in my cup?

Hi guys! So on my quest for a happier and healthier lifestyle, I had to make a few changes. The most important change has been my water intake. I do not know why I struggle to drink water, it just tastes weird to me if it is not really cold. So this limits when and where I can drink water. But with some many diseases around and cancer being rampant, I had to get my act together.

My mum heard about cutting lemons in water and its health benefits. I did some additional research about it.

This is what my cup of water looks like now. I love it! I leave the lemons in my cup for a few minutes so the lemon can work its magic/ put the lemons in a bottle of water, in the fridge.

Quite a few benefits. Definitely worth a try xxx

Wait

Daley - Those Who Wait

This is one of my favourite songs. I listen to it when I need to smile and reflect.

My favourite part of the song is the chorus:
Take your time
So I’m waiting,
Cause I know I’m gonna be
Next in line
To claim my prize, and be all that I wanna be
I work so hard to earn my place
And good things come to those who wait

Even though he makes it sound so easy, it is so difficult. There have been situations where most of us have felt discouraged and thought why me God? Why do bad things happen to good people?

Sometimes I wish I could see into the future, to know how things will pan out or just a sign that things will turn out okay.

But Jeremiah 29:11 says " For I know the thoughts I think toward you, saith The Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil to give you an expected end".

Matthew 6:25-27 "  Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life"

Also the story of Job, he said " All the days of my hard service I will wait till my change comes". By the Grace of God he survived and ended up with twice as much as he had lost.

God wouldn't give up on you so do not give up on him. Do not be anxious and impatient. Continue to walk by faith and not by sight, knowing that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we are able to ask or think... ( Ephesians 3:20)

Hope this has encouraged someone. Have a blessed week xxxx

We eat

On the 16th, it was a great day. By the Grace of God I got my nysc certificate! The process to get it should not have taken so long but I got it in the end.

After I left, decided to go venue hunting for a surprise party I am planning for a special someone. I discovered there are so many nice places in Lagos, I need to explore more. While I was exploring places in VI (which I think is a maze) detuke called and mentioned she was at a restaurant on awolowo road with another friend of ours, Demi to celebrate our passing out. The restaurant is called Orela and it is at - 114 awolowo road, Ikoyi, Lagos. We decided to stop over to say hi, did not plan to eat.

Detuke was having a prawns meal and of course I was tempted. Tuke is definitely a bad influence food wise. Fast forward to a few minutes later, I found a menu in my hand sigh. What I saw on the menu! I was shocked! They had spaghetti carbonara and seafood pasta for 2,500. Never esperred it! This is the cheapest pasta and carbonara I have seen in Lagos. I'm sure you already know what I ordered.

My meal was pretty good, was impressed.I got a complimentary spring roll while I was waiting for my meal

Looks packed with prawns right?

So weird that I never noticed this restaurant before. I will definitely go back xxx

Time flies

Hey folks!

Apologies for neglecting you all, been a 'roller coaster' week. I feel like so much is happening/ not happening in my life right now and I just need time to slow down and feel more 'settled'

That's not what this post is about. Tomorrow I shall be 'passing out' - NYSC. No words can describe the joy I am feeling right now. From November 5th 2013 (I think) till now it has been a year filled with fun, sadness, heartbreak ( career wise) , new friendships forged, old friendships renewed, some happy days and complete bullshit. Excuse my French. Some things I have been through this year, would not wish it for my worst enemy.... I think I shall do a post about my nysc year.

BUT IT IS ALL OVER TOMORROW God willing and I shall be back with more posts. Stay tuned ;)

Restaurant Review

Hey folks! It's the weekend *dancing*

Yesterday I had another NYSC event at unilag! All their wahala is coming to an end next week ( I can not scream loud enough)! It has been a tough year, so happy it is over soon. Although from next week, i'm not a baby girl no more sigh....

I went to unilag with Tukesquest ( no her name is detuke), her blog is Tukesquest. Getting to unilag was an experience but we MADE IT. On our way back we decided to treat ourselves because it was a hectic day. I had not eaten breakfast/lunch and we got to VI at 4:30 ish so you can imagine how hungry I was. We decided to go to La veranda at the Blowfish hotel. I was excited to introduce detuke to my spot!

I discovered this restaurant last christmas when I was planning a TA girls reunion. Most of us love Italian so the search began. I was really impressed with the restaurant's reviews and pictures. We had dinner there and they won me over. That's how it became my spot :)

La veranda is by the pool inside the hotel so as we were walking towards the restaurant, we were stopped. I was wondering what the problem was. One of the workers informed us that the restaurant was closed from 4-6pm as they were on a break. So we had to wait for an hour and 30 mins....my heart was breaking and my tummy protested lol. I was sure I would have passed out from hunger by 6pm. I was also thinking WHATTT?? So no pasta for bumz today???

Reluctantly, we had to settle for the restaurant in the hotel. Detuke has done a great review of everything so please check it out here- restaurant review- blowfish hotel.

I ordered the singapore noodles (with prawns) and a drink called Cinderella. When I eat out, I try not to get a rice dish. The portion was massive.

These pictures are the best pictures on my blog so far! Shout out to tuke! Food was alright, asked for it to be really spicy but it was not. Noodles tasted like indomie so yahh.... not amazing but it was edible. They were very generous with their prawns which was very impressive.

There were 2 men sat next to us and they could not stop staring. You would think we were celebrities sigh. Also, the way some nigerian men stare, you have to take a second look at yourself to ensure you have clothes on! So irritating! As expected, one of them came over to talk to us and interrupted our gisting session. Detuke went mute and buki had a 'keep it moving' facial expression. Unfortunately he was oblivious, typical! So i decided to humor him and got him to move on in a 'polite' manner. It was tough but I think i tried...

Overall it was a good catching up session and now I know la veranda is closed between 4-6pm!

Have a good weekend xxxx

One of my Guilty Pleasures

Hey everyone! Hope you have all had a good long weekend (my fellow nigerians ). I'm so stuffed with sallah meat, definitely going to NOT eat meat for a few weeks.

A few weeks ago, I was frustrated and decided to make apple crumble ( this is one of my guilty pleasures). I have searched for a decent apple crumble around Lagos and found NONE! ( Feel free to correct me if you have found one). Nowhere does it quite like Uncle Luis ( my aunty's cook),his apple crumble is 10/10. I'm almost there :). Ice cream factory was pretty decent a few years ago but I do not know who decided to be "creative". Their apple crumble is now filled with oatmeal which defeats the whole purpose IMO.

The initial plan was apple but I did not have enough apples. So I decided to add pineapples to the mix, as I love pineapples. Crumble is the only dessert I enjoy baking as it is really not that hard. You can also "wing it". My recipe is pretty basic and is similar to bbc's APPLE CRUMBLE RECIPE.

I managed to get a not so great picture. We had it with Blue Bunny's cookie dough ice cream. It was a good night.
This was after it had been devoured lol. I guess it was a HIT :) xxxx

Life after 22

22 is an age that bridges the gap between the reckless abandon of adolescence and the conforms of adulthood. I'm going to talk about a few wonderful changes I read somewhere.

1) Strongest friendships become unbreakable, especially with the friends you do not see all the time: Some people get jobs and some move away. Group convos become a way of keeping in touch and are very effective. They help when you bored at work and feel alone at a crowded party lol. When friends are near or far, it becomes clear who will stick around and who wouldn't .

2) Fair weather friends fall to the wayside: The people you used to dread hanging out with become people you never see. Which is so great! The arguments stop and the drama ends. No need for pity friendships. Ain't nobody got time for that!

3) You meet people who know you for what you do, not who you were as an adolescent: it is nice to relate to someone about your dreams, aspirations, passions rather than your worst drunk moments or when a paper is due.

4) You watch your friends become 'real adults' and stop having to play babysitter: weekends become less nerve wrecking when you know there isn't a chance you could end up in the waiting room of a hospital.

5) You become part of a work family

6) Horrible people come into your life and you can finally see why they are toxic

7) You can laugh at your teenage years and actually see how you have changed

8) You get nostalgic for the past without getting sad

9) Sleep becomes very essential

10) You become unaware of what is happening on social media this week

11) You hear the beauty, power and confidence and power in the word 'NO': You used to feel like you had to say yes to everything: dates, friends, purchases, outings. You felt bad when you turned anything down. After 22 you see that saying no just means you know what you want and understand how to avoid the things you don't want.

More facts about Bumz

I'm sure you can tell I am enjoying this topic...

21) White chocolate>>> Milk chocolate>>> Dark Chocolate

22) A man that can wear a SUIT! WHooshhh *weak in the knees* Bald and a beard is an added bonus too ;)

23) I have really active tear glands sigh. But not to worry I'm an attractive crier lol...obviously does not exist

24) Favorite sport is volleyball. Tennis is a close second

25) I can not sing. Definitely did not get the singing gene but its okay, I can dance. Been rated a 7 on an alright day. Shout out to OBB ;)

26) I get really irritated by people that don't understand the 'personal space' concept. I don't know where your hands have been yoo! There really isn't a nice way to say this is there?

27) Started a healthy hair journey. Waist length hair I'm coming for you!

I think that is enough xxx

Happy Independence Day

It's the 1st of October!

Nigeria will be unlucky without our beloved president Goodluck Jonathan! ( See what I did there ;)

Mystery solved!

The past few days I  noticed my views have been increasing at an odd rate. I found this odd because just a few people know about this blog ATM. My fellow bloggers that are helping me and a few friends that saw it by mistake. I wasn't quite ready to share it yet.

This morning it was revealed to me that it is not that hard to find it. Not hard AT ALL actually. This post is for my silent readers that made me live in denial.....This might be the last post you will get to see :P
